MY APPROACH

Welcome. It can be hard to reach out. It is an honor and a privilege for me to be “let into” someone’s life and to work together to address concerns. Gaining an understanding of your perspective and experiences, practicing nonjudgmental acceptance and gentleness, and sitting with painful emotions together are all part of the process. I want to hear how you are experiencing this process, and believe that our honest, open communication can lead to greater trust and deeper work. Your voice matters. There are many ways to “do” therapy. Together we’ll discover what works best for you.

Past clients might describe my style as warm, direct, and accepting. I am passionate about helping clients develop more self-compassion, self-acceptance, and self-forgiveness, and helping them gain greater access to and expression of their emotions. I hope to co-create with you a secure relationship that can withstand discomfort, even lean into it, since some feelings – grief, fear, irritation, shame, etc. – can be uncomfortable to feel. Whatever your concerns, the increased awareness, acceptance, and connection possible in counseling are key elements in creating change in our lives. I aim to partner with you on your journey, to practice authenticity, attunement, collaboration, and empathy, and to listen deeply (but not exclusively). My goal is to create a welcoming space for people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders, and political beliefs. Thank you for considering working with me.

My Specialties

Over the last 18+ years, I have done a significant amount of personal work on cultural competence and humility, addressing internalized racism within myself. I am committed to continuing this work. I am grateful that I have been privileged to work with clients from a variety of cultural backgrounds. I have counseled adults 18 to 75 years of age and welcome adults of any age. I have also enjoyed working with couples, men, and those who are new to counseling. I love variety!
